About Richelieu:
Richelieu jewelry was produced by Joseph H. Myer & Bros. in Brooklyn, New York, beginning in 1911. Richelieu, Inc. was formed through a merger with Heller-Deltah Company, the maker of Deltah Pearls, in 1933, according to an article in the New York Times. However, Joseph H. Meyer & Bros. was still mentioned in some advertising pieces as the maker of Richelieu jewelry in the 1940s.
As makers of imitation pearls go, the Richelieu brand was well-known in the 1940s and ‘50s in particular. Their necklaces were sold in satin-lined presentation cases marked with the name of the company, and many had hang tags attached with pieces of ribbon. Some of the more expensive examples had rhinestone-embellished clasps. Others can be found with karat gold clasps, which were available in both yellow and white gold. Sterling silver components were used on some pieces as well. The company’s jewelry got bolder in style, moving into the 1960s and ’70s, as more rhinestone jewelry and articles made of plastics were produced.
