Description
This set of six (6) collected early 20th century decorative porcelain plates form Japan will create the most elegant display in any traditional decor setting — whether they are hung on dining room, living room or bedroom wall. These antique handpainted plates came from an estate in the deep south and are beautifully colored with their pink and black accents on a cream-colored background.
There are three pink lotus flowers positioned around the lip of each plate which incorporates a gold and black diamond border along the edge. Additionally, the rim consists of three gold half-flowers, detailed scroll work and smaller black and white flowers with pink highlights. The cream-colored well of the plates (where the food would be placed) depicts two ladies in a fenced-in pastoral scene with their heads turned around as if reacting to a noise behind them. One is holding a serving tray with a vase and branch arrangement. In addition to the two Oriental ladies, there is an oriental man positioned inside a Japanese portico. The knotted tree has interesting “starburst” leaves and even the fence has a nice detail element. The elegant coloring, gilt accents, pastoral scene and crackle lines reflecting the plates’ age enhance their overall appeal, making this set of six collectible plates one you will be sure to hand down to future generations.
- Easily recognizable porcelain age characteristics include genuine “crackles” or “crackle lines” which turn yellowish, brown with age (see enlarged image of plate background).
- mold number: 6186
- condition: two plates have one hairline each on the bottom rim of the plate. Overall condition is excellent considering age. There in one flea bite on one of the plates. Please refer to pictures for details.
