This original print (which measures 8.5″ x 6.75″) appears to be hand-colored with pastels and comes from Tewa Enterprises in Santa Fe and has been re-framed and re-matted to last many more decades.

Artist Bio

Internationally known Indian portrait artist, Gerda Christoffersen, is known for her pastel works called “Papoose Style.”  born in Denmark, Gerda Christoffersen emigrated to Canada with her family. In her teens, as a creative young artist, she originated her unique artistic interpretations of the papoose. Gerda Christoffersen was already an acclaimed and professional artist when she came to New Mexico as a young woman and immersed herself in the history and tribal lore of our Southwest Indians. She devoted the subsequent years to portraying both the pathos and pride of those people.
